College campus wins Best Newcomer at Doors Open Days

City of Glasgow College’s stunning Riverside Campus has taken the Outstanding New Festival Participant title at this year’s Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival.

Event organisers highlighted, in particular, how impressed members of the public were by both City of Glasgow College staff and Riverside Campus.

Staff from the College’s Faculty of Nautical Studies, Corporate Development and Front of House, who provided the tours, attended a Civic Reception held on Wednesday 9 November in the City Chambers which recognised all those who contributed to the Festival.

Roy Gardner, Director of Corporate Development at City of Glasgow College, accepted the award on behalf of the team, and said:

“This is the first year our award winning maritime campus has taken part in the annual Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival. It has been a great success and we received many positive comments from those who took part in the tours which our team took great pride in delivering.”

“Our industry standard campus has not only established itself as a leading centre of excellence in marine engineering, nautical science, and STEM, it has embedded itself as an integral part of the community and the city of Glasgow, and we look forward to continuing to welcome visitors from near and far to our inspirational building.”

Since opening in August 2015 Riverside has won seven architectural and design awards, and was a finalist in this year’s RIBA Stirling Prize - UK architecture’s top accolade. Doors Open visitors were able to take in the building’s full height atrium, colonnaded garden, and had access to its engineering workshop, working ships’ engine room and 360-degree shipping simulation suite, the only one in Scotland.
