Doors Open to College’s Riverside Campus

Since opening last year City of Glasgow College’s Riverside campus has welcomed 7,000 visitors to its multi-award winning building situated on the banks of the River Clyde.

The campus is now welcoming more visitors as part of Glasgow’s Doors Open Days which runs from Monday 12 through to Sunday 18 September.

The week-long event gives members of the public the chance to see round this inspiring building with its full height atrium and stunning views across the city.

Home to Scotland’s leading maritime and engineering campus, Riverside is the most modern, most technologically advanced maritime campus in the world.

Since opening to staff and students in August 2015, it has won seven architectural and design awards, and is the only building in Scotland to have made the final shortlist of six buildings for the RIBA Stirling Prize - UK architecture’s top accolade. The winner will be announced on 6 October.

The Doors Open Days tour includes access to Scotland's only 360-degree shipping simulation suite which puts visitors on the bridge of a super-tanker while it navigates its way up the River Clyde or into some of the world’s most iconic harbours.

Also part of the tour is the most modern working engine room in a college in the UK, with a 20 tonne engine that gives students real hands-on experience of maintaining and running a full sized ships engine.
