Glasgow Doors Open huge success for College Campus

This was the first year that City of Glasgow College’s Riverside campus took part in the annual Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival and it was a resounding success for the college campus.

Each tour was fully booked bringing the number of visitors to the campus in one week to almost 600. The event contributed to visitor numbers topping the 7,000 mark since the building opened its doors to staff and students in August 2015.

Written feedback on the tours included hugely positive comments:

“A remarkable experience - could be the highlight of Doors Open Days 2016 – especially the simulator.”

“You’re spoiling the students! Top class facility – the college should be proud of the new building.”

“Superb facilities from state of the art electronics to good old fashioned workshop tools! We thoroughly enjoyed our informative and interesting tour.”

Visitors got access to Scotland’s only 360-degree shipping simulation suite, the engineering workshop and working ships’ engine as well as the chance to take in the building’s full height atrium with stunning views across the city.

Home to Scotland’s leading maritime and engineering campus, Riverside is one of the most modern, most technologically advanced maritime campuses in the world. Since opening it has won seven architectural and design awards, and is currently in the final shortlist of six buildings for this year’s RIBA Stirling Prize - UK architecture’s top accolade.
