Top Marks for City at Skills Olympics

City of Glasgow College was one of the big winners at the UK Skills Show in Birmingham this weekend, claiming nine medals including three golds.

Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Little, said:

“This is a fantastic result for our World Class College and our students should be very proud indeed. I am delighted that all their tremendous hard work and that of their lecturers and coaches has paid off, such a significant number of medals is to their credit.

“Our top priority at City of Glasgow College is to equip each and every one of our students with the skills they will need to enter the world of work. This Skills Show competition plays a vital role in raising industry standards and to be in the top two shows just how brilliantly our College is doing in preparing our students to be the best in their chosen career.”

City of Glasgow College received nine medals, including three Golds, four Silver, two Bronze and two Highly Commended awards. New College Lanarkshire took the top spot with 10 medals overall, including four Golds, two Silvers, four Bronze, and two Highly Commended awards, making it an outstanding evening for Scottish Education.

In just two weeks City of Glasgow College will also take part in this year’s Euro Skills Show in Gothenburg. Islay McLarty will represent the college in Beauty Therapy – Body having taken gold at last year’s UK Skills Show. She is one of only two Scots to represent the UK at Euro Skills which runs from 1 to 3 December.
