£10,000 F&C Investment Trust Prize Shortlist Announced

The shortlist for the F&C Investment Trust Prize has been announced and members of the public have until Friday 1 March 2019 to vote for their winner.

A final list of 15 student teams from City of Glasgow College have been nominated for the prize package which includes £10,000 for their faculty to invest in research, innovation or development, and personal career mentoring.

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College,said:

“Our congratulations go to everyone who has reached the short-list. The varied range of entries certainly shows that imaginations have been sparked regarding financial education. I'm delighted that so many of our students have engaged with this partnership competition, and that it has also stimulated a wider discussion on the importance of securing a financial future. Excitement is now building to find out who will take home the big prize and we wish all finalists the very best of luck!'

Members of the public can vote for their favourite entry at the F&C Investment Trust website where details of all the entrants are available. Voting closes at 5.00pm on Friday 1 March.

City of Glasgow College teamed up with F&C Investment Trust in a unique partnership that aims to encourage students to consider how their future lives can be made more financially secure.

“We are delighted with the interest in our competition and would like to congratulate these fifteen nominees on reaching the final stage. Now their entries will be scrutinised by the general public and external judges to decide an ultimate winner. This competition is a flagship financial education project for us and the first of its kind in the UK. It’s part of our strategy to help young people understand why saving and investing can help make their lives more financially secure in the long term.”

The team of judges that will also be part of the process to award the final winner include the college’s Student President, Milea Leone, together with three journalists: Julia Belgutay, Scotland Education Correspondent at The Times Education Supplement; Jamie McIvor, BBC Scotland Education and Local Government Correspondent; Andy Denholm, Scotland Education Correspond at The Herald newspaper. Plus three representatives from F&C Investment Trust and BMO Global Asset Management: Simon Fraser, Chairman of F&C Investment Trust; Marrack Tonkin, Head of Investment Trusts, BMO GAM; Lucy Martin, Graduate Client Management, BMO GAM.

The Winner(s)’ Prize Package includes:

  • The F&C Investment Trust Prize trophy
  • £10,000 for the faculty to invest in research, innovation or development.
  • Sharable prize – MacBook Air
  • Exclusive career training - offering guidance, mock interview questions and CV building tips
  • Special recognition at annual City of Glasgow College Student Excellence & Achievement Awards 2019
  • Special recognition on College Graduation Day, and in Graduation booklet
  • Special recognition on Prize plaque in university walls for posterity
  • Presentation lunch with F&C Investment Trust Board – for networking and opportunity for Q&A

The competition, which launched December, aimed to showcase students’ financial understanding by asking them to unlock inventive ways to close the UK’s financial knowledge gap.
